Language Schools

Hello everybody,
two weeks ago at this time we were leaving London and drove to Heathrow airport to fly back to Salzburg. All in all it was a great time and I’ve learned many things about the British culture.

My blog entry concerns the value and significance of language schools. So my first impression of our language school in Southbourne was a bit surprising because I expected a bigger school with more students. The building reminded me of a Kindergarden or a primary school because everything was so tiny and narrow.

Although we had really nice and helpful teachers and some of us could really improve their English. In my case I couldn’t improve my English much because our group already had a high level of English and the most time we learned things which we already knew.  Nevertheless there were a couple of things which I didn’t know before.

Generally, I don’t think that language schools where students have someone who speaks the same language are really valuable because it’s normal that you switch to your mother language if you can. So it would have been better if we had been in classes with foreign students. As far as I can remember there were “mixed” classes with students from all over the world. So it was a shame that we were separated.

I also think that language schools are only valuable if you stay there for a longer time. Five days are much too short to improve your English. I would recommend staying at least two weeks if you really want an improvement. But I know that this is nearly impossible for a school trip so I was really satisfied with five days in Southbourne

Nevertheless it was a great time especially in Southbourne and I had many chances to see behind the curtains of the British culture.

Have a great Easter holiday,

Aylin
